 "Door locks made easy" 2010-01-31
By Mark A. Koshmrl
I bought this so I could replace the door handles in my house. Most of them only had a one inch hole for the door knob. The Black and Decker installation kit took all the guess work out of re-doing my doors. Within one hour, I had 5 doors done. It worked great and it was a very resonable price. I highly recommend this to beginners and professionals alike.

"Decent tool if you know what you are doing" 2008-05-31
By H. Wu
I got this tool from one of the local home improvement store. Amazon's current price is better. In any case, it's cheaper than buying two separate bi-metal hole saws and a mandrel if you are working on only one brand of locks. Used it to install 3 deadbolts on metal doors. Worked just fine. Yes, the plastic guide is just marketing gimmick. Don't use it. Instead, drill a small pilot hole with a drill bit first BEFORE using this tool. Take your time to get it done accurately. And use a strong corded drill with a 1/2'' chuck and a 2nd handle.

Note that when changing the hole saw from the 2-1/8'' to the 1'' one, just remove the inner part of the mandrel, and leave the outer part on the 2-1/8'' saw. The previous reviewer apparently got confused by the instruction.

"Good luck using this thing" 2007-12-08

I bought this kit to install some door locks and they're so cheap that they only give you ONE mandrel for two saw bits. The manual tells you to drill the 2 1/8" hole, then "disassemble 2 1/8" hole saw and assemble 1" hole saw". Yeah, good luck... once you drill with one of the saws, that mandrel stays in that saw bit and you won't be able to get it out even with your best wrenches. I'm stalled halfway into my door drilling and am returning this piece of Chinese made junk.

 "Great for wood doors" 2006-04-27
By Jess Wright (Phoenix, MD)
I bought this jig and used it successfully with wood interior doors. It was simple I set the two plastic pieces for the right setback and tightened it onto the door. Drilled the holes and had a great result. I replaced 20 doors with no issues.

I tried using it for a metal door and the bit walked around on the metal. I ended up using the template that came with the lockset. I used a centerpunch and hand drilled it.

"Think of it as two slightly overpriced bi-metal hole saws." 2005-04-01
By veganMalcontent
This kit is really two bi-metal hole saws, an arbor, and some extra trash to throw out. I bought it to bore out the undersized holes on two metal-clad french doors. I hoped the flimsy plastic guide that comes with this kit would steady the hole saw. The first time I pulled the trigger on the drill, it was like that scene in the New York episode of the Simpsons where Homer uses a jackhammer to remove the boot on his car with comical results. To finish that door I ended up butting some clamps up against the guide to prevent it from moving. For the next door, I'll simply cut a hole in a piece of plywood and clamp the plywood to the door, which will make a much sturdier guide.

For a set of two bi-metal hole saws with an arbor, you can get better quality (DeWalt) for less money. Do yourself a favor and go buy DeWalt hole saws in the same sizes and make a jig similar to the one just described.
