"light duty use only - very expensive for regular use" 2010-02-13
By Michael Winters
We bought these initially for the trucks but quickly found that they were very expensive hole saws on a holes per dollar basis. Cut more than a couple holes in cement board or even MDF and these hole saws are toast - literally with the burn marks on the side of the hole saw. Cutting plywood or MDF or OSB and the material will start to smoke before you can finish the hole.

OK for mild steel and simple projects where time is not important and where you can use a cord drill. For cordless drills these bi-metal hole saws with their tiny high speed steel teeth quickly kill the charge in a battery. We can get 3-4 holes in wood even with 18v lithium-ion batteries.

Problem with all Milwaukee cases is that they don't provide room for adding more hole saw sizes to the kit. You have to buy a new kit and even then most cannot hold a 4-5/8" size needed for making holes for 4" pipe.

Much faster cutting and much longer battery life by using Blue Boar TCT tungsten carbide hole cutters for wood, plaster, composites, fiberglass, cement board and the like or even the Milwaukee Big Hawg hole cutters for wood.

BLUE BOAR TSF12 -12 Piece Tungsten Carbide TCT Self-Feed Hole Saw kit w/ 2-1/4" cutting depth, outperforms self-feed bits & bi-metal hole saws. Cut wood, MDF, OSB, laminates, Hardie & chipboard, plaster, drywall, brick, Formica

Maximum cutting depth is average, neither great nor terrible but it is something to consider if you want to buy tools for general use in lots of different situations. Not important for steel which is where the Milwaukee bi-metal hole saws are best used. "Ice hardening" is wonderful marketing hype but you still have high speed steel cutting tips which are marginal for most materials.

 "Very Nice Set" 2009-04-06
By S. Crane (Tinley Park, IL)
I haven't used every size yet, but they all seem very sharp and the case is quite heavy-duty. The only thing I was let down about was the "case has space for more hole saws" part. There is a small storage space in the top of the case that can fit (3) 1-1/4ish hole saws. You CAN NOT fit any size larger that what is supplied in the case. I bought a 2-3/4" and 3" to finish the set off, but neither will fit in the case, but I didn't think it was fair to deduct a star for that. Overall I'm very satisfied with what I got for the price.
